LEAD with Horses

LEAD with Horses’ mission is “to improve the social, emotional and behavioral development of children of Western Nevada through quality therapeutic and educational equine programs”.

Seeing firsthand the young lives they are making a difference in with horses is without a doubt the most touching and truly amazing experience. Before learning about LEAD with Horses, I had a basic understanding of the intuition and sensitivity horses have. After learning more about their program and seeing the lives these horses have changed gave me a much better understanding and appreciation for not only horses, but the connection horses can have with humans. These beautiful animals understand people on a much deeper level and they provide honest feedback when you know how to listen. When clients complete a LEAD program they leave with new insights into situations in their own lives and learn to make appropriate and effective changes.

LEAD offers 2 programs, Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

(EAP) to clients. Within the EAL program clients are provided with the opportunity to learn a variety of life skills and to develop self-confidence and self-esteem. Activities are structured to develop skills such as, attention, behavioral regulation, communication, decision making, empathy, empowerment, problem solving, respect, stress management, leadership, focus, and more. The EAP program focuses on treatment goals addressing a variety of mental health and human development needs including; anxiety, behavioral issues, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, grief, attention deficit disorder, and more. Within this program a licensed therapist works closely with a horse professional to focus on the client’s needs centered around specific treatment goals.

Interested in learning more about LEAD with Horses, visit them at They rely on public support to provide these programs to help children develop life skills and build resilience. Donations are greatly appreciated in addition to volunteers and sharing their mission!

Lastly, LEAD with Horses needs your help to match our donation of $2,000! Our donation of $2,000 will allow LEAD with Horses the ability to provide several children with the remarkable opportunity to experience working with their horses in an educational and therapeutic environment. No students are turned away due to their inability to pay, but this year they have too many scholarship students and not enough funding. Without your help many of these children don't get the chance at this life-changing experience. Every donation counts!
